National Trails Day

Join us the weekend of June 1-2 in one of the most scenic (and well-shaded) regions of the Black Rock National Conservation Area for our annual National Trails Day campout and stewardship event.

Located at the iconic Stevens Campground, north of High-Rock Canyon, this is a unique opportunity to travel deep within the NCA, and to spend a weekend helping to improve our public lands, surrounded by natural beauty and our wonderful community of volunteers.

Stewardship projects will take place all-day Saturday (June 1st) and will include a vehicle trespass restoration, preservation of the public-use cabin, and improvement of the Upper High Rock Canyon Trail through the removal of overgrowth and fallen trees as well as trail widening and maintenance. With your participation, we can ensure this area of critical environmental concern will be enjoyed for many years to come!

In partnership with the BLM and Friends of Nevada Wilderness, we will be providing all the tools, safety equipment, and training necessary to get the job done. Given the roughly 3.5-hour drive from Reno deep into the wilderness of High Rock Canyon, participants are welcomed and encouraged to camp on location at Steven's Camp Friday and Saturday nights.

While open to all ages and abilities, a 4WD vehicle with high-clearance may be needed, especially if north along County Rd. 34. Smaller 2WD vehicles might consider approaching High Rock from the west via Cedarville along CA-299 E. Though easier to traverse, it will add additional drivetime to your journey.

As a thank you to our volunteers, meals will be provided throughout the weekend including dinner Friday and Saturday nights, as well as breakfast Sunday morning.
