Become a Fly Ranch Nature Walk Docent!

If you share our passion for beautiful places and the history and ecology of our wild spaces, then you might consider volunteering as a Docent with Friends of Black Rock at the iconic Fly Geyser for our Saturday Nature Walks!

From geysers, to hot-springs, to labyrinths, to massive art installations, all set against a high-desert backdrop teeming with wildflowers and wild horses, there are few places like it in the world. As a docent, you will have the chance to tell the story of this land and its many inhabitants, as well as the cultural significance of Fly Ranch with all those who come to explore it. Additional responsibilities include greeting our Nature Walkers at the Friends of Black Rock Visitor Center in Gerlach, signing them in, then leading the caravan to Fly Ranch where you'll guide a three-hour walking tour of Fly Geyser and surrounding areas.

Docent Requirements:

–Attend at least one Nature Walk and complete an on-site orientation. Dates for these include the first four Nature Walks of the year, held each Saturday during the month of April 2024 (additional monthly dates will become available throughout the year on a need-by-need basis)

-Attend one additional Nature Walk as a Support Docent

-Read the Fly Ranch Nature Walk Docent Guide (Available below)

-Be familiar with Leave No-Trace principles (Training will be offered to our dedicated docents)
