Fly Ranch Nature Walks

Morning and evening nature walks now available.

Reserve your spot here through Ticket Leap to explore scenic Fly Ranch on a guided nature walk.

Experience Fly Ranch while making a connection with the unique desert and geothermic landscape of Northwestern Nevada.

Important Info

Nature walks occur rain or shine.

Wear long pants and sturdy closed-toes shoes.

For insurance and liability reasons, we are not able to accommodate soaking in the pools at this time.

Please keep your cameras, devices, recorders and phones tucked away. We increasingly spend time in front of screens and on our phones. Let’s enjoy the land without distractions and be in the moment with one another. Brief photos may be taken throughout the walk. At least 30 minutes will be reserved to take pictures at the geysers.

Check-in at our Black Rock Welcome Center in Gerlach, Nevada from 9:00-9:30 am for the 10:00 am walk, and from 4:00-4:30 pm for the 5:00 pm walk.

No pets allowed, including dogs.

Open access to Fly Geyser is not available. PLEASE DO NOT TRESPASS. Fly Geyser is on private property. Guardians remain on the property year-round.

About the Walks

We traverse two distinct areas of the 3,800-acre Fly Ranch, totaling roughly two miles. Participants will be accompanied by knowledgeable docents to learn more about the flora, fauna, and natural resources as well as the history of the greater Black Rock Desert area.

There are three geysers on the property including the stunning Fly Geyser, an iconic geothermal geyser that constantly sprays, depositing minerals, and enabling the growth of multi-colored algae on its surrounding natural terraces.

Area Amenities

Please support our local businesses! In Gerlach, there is a gas station, Bruno’s Motel, Bruno’s Country Club (restaurant and bar), the Miner’s Club (cafe and bar), and Joe’s Gerlach Club. The Empire Store is approximately 6.5 miles outside of Gerlach and has reopened to the public; there is a small gas station next door.

Lodging

You can spend the night at Bruno’s motel in Gerlach, find an Airbnb in the area or camp out on neighboring public lands. Learn more about Gateway Communities.
