Join Friends of Black Rock for our 21st Annual Perseid Meteor Shower Campout, a weekend celebrating some of the darkest skies in the West. Spend the weekend camping on the Black Rock Playa, enjoying great food, live music, and helping care for this extraordinary landscape.

Whether you are returning for another year under the stars or joining us for the first time, we invite you to be part of a weekend built around community, stewardship, and the wonder of the night sky.

Weekend Schedule

Friday, August 14

4:00 PM – Guided Bike Ride Across the Playa

Meet at the 12 Mile Entrance for a scenic ride across the Black Rock Playa. This relaxed ride is a great way to experience the landscape before sunset.

6:00 PM – Camp Check-In Opens

Arrive at camp, get settled, meet fellow participants, and prepare for a weekend under the stars.

Saturday, August 15

8:00–9:00 AM – Community Breakfast

Enjoy coffee, fresh fruit, and pastries while getting to know fellow campers.

6:30 PM – Community Dinner

Gather for a delicious vegetarian curry dinner with naan, rice, fresh herbs, vegetables, and all the fixings. (Bring your own plates and utensils)

8:00 PM – Live Music Under the Stars

Relax around camp and enjoy an evening performance before settling in for the meteor shower.

Late Evening – Perseid Meteor Shower Viewing

As darkness falls look up and experience one of the year’s most spectacular meteor showers from one of Nevada’s premier dark sky destinations.

Sunday, August 16

8:00–9:00 AM – Community Breakfast

Morning Stewardship Project

Help us give back to the Black Rock Desert through a hands on stewardship activity. Together we can help preserve this incredible landscape for future visitors.
