  • Site Stewardship

    Ongoing

    Join FBRHR staff and other volunteers for an educational and rewarding day of conservation at various sites throughout the National Conservation Area.

    Meet at our Visitor Center in Gerlach to gear up and learn about the day’s project before heading out on your own stewardship adventure. This is an excellent opportunity to visit some of the most beautiful sites in Black Rock country in the company of a knowledgeable guide in small groups.

  • Fly Ranch Nature Walks

    Every Saturday (April-October)

    Traverse through two distinct areas of Fly Ranch, totaling roughly two miles. Knowledgeable docents teach walkers about the flora, fauna, and natural resources as well as history of the area.

    Experience three geysers including the stunning Fly Geyser, an iconic geothermal geyser that constantly sprays, depositing minerals, and enabling the growth of multi-colored algae on its surrounding natural terraces.

  • Guided Hikes, Tours, and E-bike Rentals

    Join Friends of Black Rock, alongside a certified interpretive guide, for an exploration into the varying regions of the Black Rock National Conservation Area. Learn about its history, geology, flora, fauna, and cultural impact.

  • Black Rock Rendezvous

    May 25-26

    Come out for our extremely popular annual event over Memorial Day weekend. This is a multi-day campout featuring Dutch oven cook-off, educational programming, recreational opportunities and site stewardship opportunities. Volunteer and learn about the extraordinary birds, animals, geology, gems and history of the Black Rock. Tasks include meal preparation, camp set-up/break down, registration and program/project support.
