Dear Friend,

While we appreciate your interest, it is important that you become a member if we are to continue to produce this newsletter and provide our other excellent programs. We urge you to join now! Thanks in advance for your support. Now, on to the news...

Tickets are now on sale for this year's Black Rock Rendezvous.
Saturday, Sunday or multi-day tickets are available.

The Rendezvous celebrates the diversity of uses and history of the Black Rock Desert Region and provides an excellent opportunity for people unfamiliar to the area to get better acquainted. Tours take place each day so you can get to some of the more remote areas not typically visited. See ancient rock-art, learn about amateur rocketry, wild horses, the Emigrants who passed through and more.

black rock rendezvousPromoted in cooperation with numerous partner organizations, the event provides educational activities for kids and adults, 2 direct service conservation projects, and opportunities to explore and experience the National Conservation Area. The Nevada Outdoor School hosts a free kids camp on Saturday & Sunday so bring them along!

Saturday morning begins with an orientation and talks from the various partner groups involved, and lunch from  Black Rock Pizza in Sparks. In the afternoon there are short tours, then things move out to the campsite at Cassidy Mine. It's Cowboy Camp Night that evening, with a chuckwagon dinner feast, cowboy poetry by Leon Flick,  emigrant lore with historian Chuck Dodd, and a late-night movie. Keep your eyes in the sky if you can, as there will be a dazzling nighttime rocket launch.

The fun continues Sunday with your selection from several all day tours, followed by a potluck dinner and dutch oven cook-off, with Will & Crimson's famous margaritas. At dark, catch a fireworks show with performances by Tahoe Fire Dancers and Controlled Burn and live music with Frame of Mind and Drinking With Clowns. A giant raffle takes place on Sunday as well, where you can win 2 tickets to Burning Man, guest ranch stays, desert survival guides, a pirate ship experience, and many other great prizes. Purchase raffle tickets in advance and check out the current (and growing) prize list!

Volunteers are needed to assist with tours, registration, raffle tickets and more.

You too, can give back!
Friends of Black Rock  volunteers have an opportunity to give back to the region which has  given so much inspiration to us. Not only does it feel good, volunteering imparts free membership and other perks. It's a great excuse to get out to Gerlach, and provides opportunities to get out to remote wilderness places you might not otherwise see.

Visitor Station Now Open on Weekends.
The Friends of Black Rock High Rock works in partnership with the BLM to staff and manage the Visitor Contact Station situated just north of Gerlach on Rte. 447 before the Rte. 34 split. The mobile station is stocked with many free materials, offers area travel advice and information and recently updated maps.  We need your help to keep this facility open and working to educate the public. To volunteer, please visit our web site.

As always, your support is crucial so we can continue to provide information to the public, produce fun and educational events, and help do the work on the ground necessary to maintain fragile desert resources. Thank you!
