Direct Service Projects in Black Rock DesertThe Friends of Black Rock/High Rock work in tandem with various non-profit organizations and desert-based user groups to facilitate and execute a wide range of projects. We do our best to support public access to public lands, and we believe that volunteerism is an important mechanism to get the public involved, and to give back to this amazing desert region that we have all come to love and respect. March 27th-29th Fly Canyon Restoration: Volunteers will be based at the Soldier Meadows Campground. This volunteer event will include finishing road rehabilitation in Fly Canyon in the High Rock Lake Wilderness, completion of cultural clearance as necessary, removal of debris (cans, debris, abandoned fence) and monitoring of the 2008 road rehabilitation work. Sign up here. May 23rd-25th Black Rock Rendezvous: This event brings together user groups of the Black Rock Desert-High Rock Canyon Emigrant Trails National Conservation Area, the Friends of Black Rock, and the general public for a weekend of tours, promoting stewardship, environmental education, direct service projects and fun! There will be an Eco-Kids Camp for children, while adults participate in an expo, various tours, demonstrations and other projects. If you wish to volunteer at the Rendezvous, please sign up here. May 24th-25th Playa Dunes Restoration: Friends groups will work together to protect and restore dunes on the Black Rock Desert Playa with help from volunteers during the Black Rock Rendezvous. Sign up here. July 18th -19th Guru Rd. Restoration: Volunteers will work to restore installations and monuments at Nevada’s only drive thru folk art exhibit, part of the unique character of the Black Rock Desert. Please sign up here. August 7th-9th Summit Twin Spring Restoration: This volunteer project will be held in the North Black Rock Range and will consist of removing old, abandoned fence.
