and are open to the public. Locations may vary,
but generally meetings are held at 6 p.m.
the third Thursday of the month in Reno.

Join BLM, Friends of Black Rock, Friends of NV Wilderness and the NV Outdoor School on September 18-19 for various projects and a campout in the Black Rock Desert. National Public Lands Day is a very popular event every September in Nevada. We expect over 70 volunteers to participate in Friends' and partner group activities. A family-friendly event; there will be educational programs for the kids, lots of family activities and Dutch oven cooking. For a map to this year's location download the PDF. Here's what's planned for this year's event: 1) Black Rock Range "high dry" mini playas: Metric and D.A.; 12-20 people on this team will naturalize 2-track OHV scars, remove clay pigeon debris, place Carsonite sign w. custom partner stickers, "no vehicle" signs for designated routes; Frog Pond cleanup -- Metric and D.A. general clean up around springs. 2) Coyote Dune fence: Pat Bruce; buck & pole fence, approx. 1200 feet near one-track to Soldier Meadows, naturalize OHV scars, add Carsonite signs; 3) Kids project: experimental replant 2nd Coyote dune w/ greasewood, 3rd dune too. Brian Beffort of Friends NV Wilderness & Nevada Outdoor School, parents working w. kids. Camping is located approximately 2 miles north of the 12 mile playa entrance, on the west arm of the playa. Saturday evening pot luck w/ food added by NOS & FBRHR, Dutch oven cookoff. A keg of Silver Creek Brewery beer will be provided by Friends of Nevada Wilderness, and a pony keg will be provided by the Friends of Black Rock, courtesy of Great Basin Brewing Co. Participants should understand dry, leave-no-trace camping, and pack it in pack it out. |
