Overview:
Dynamic, self-starting, highly motivated, experienced, Executive Director
responsible for guiding a young, emerging, ambitious, non-profit toward
it’s
present and future goals.
Summary:
The Executive Director (ED) is primarily responsible for the day-to-day
Friends of the Black Rock/High Rock (FBR/HR) operations. This includes working
with the Board of Directors (Board), Advisory and Executive Boards, committee
chairs, staff, donors and potential donors, other non-profits, foundations,
government officials and other organizations as necessary. Guided by, and working
with the Board of Directors, the ED helps develop efforts toward implementing
the strategic plan. Works with the Board of Directors to raise funds and secure
grants. The ED is responsible for finances, program execution and evaluation,
communication, staff and volunteer management, and interfacing with the community.
Description
Strategic Planning:
- Work with the Board to set and periodically review the FBR/HR’s strategic
goals.
- Work with the Board to ensure that the strategic goals are met.
- Work with
the Board to ensure that sufficient resources are available to achieve
the strategic goals.
Fundraising:
- The Board and the ED share the responsibility for
ensuring that the Foundation has the resources it needs to meet the organization’s
strategic objectives.
- Works with the Fundraising Committee to ensure that
plans are in place for the generation of resources according to the FBR/HR’s
annual budget as approved by the Board.
- Responsible for the development
of fundraising programs, including individual and institutional donor
development, member acquisition and retention, and grantwriting.
Responsible for working with appropriate committees to organize effective
fundraising events as intended by the Fundraising Committee.
Budgets and Financial Reporting:
- Drafts an annual budget for
approval by the Board.
- Report financials on a monthly basis or as dictated
by the Board.
- Ensure that all required government reporting, tax preparation,
and paperwork is completed on schedule and current
Programs:
- Responsible for management and execution of all programs. Works directly
with the Program Committee.
- With Program Committee approval, initiates
appropriate programs.
- Works with the Program Committee to review all proposed
programs ensuring that they are within the scope of the Organization's
mission.
- Provides outcomes and recommendations to the Board.
Communications:
- Responsible for regular updates and communication
with the Board, Advisory Board, Executive Committee, Staff and Members.
- Develop
and maintain the member and announcement databases and initiate regular,
periodic communications.
- Provide oversight to the Communications Director
(Com Dir) toward developing and maintaining the FBR/HR’s web site.
- Work
with the Com Dir develop to produce printed communication and fundraising
materials.
- Plan and execute effective press and public relations communications.
- Initiate
and maintain communication with relevant government agencies and representatives.
Staff and Volunteer Management:
- Responsible for staff management
and evaluation.
- Works with Executive Committee to hire and recruit new
staff.
- Ensures staff meets project goals in a timely manner.
- Supervises AmeriCorp,
Vista Staff and Staff.
- Develop and manage, along with the Volunteer Coordinator,
an effective volunteer program, that meets or exceeds Organizations goals.
- Interface
with the Black Rock/ High Rock partners and friends
Reporting Relationships:
- Reports directly to the Board.
- Attends all Board Meetings
- Attends committee meetings.
- All staff reports to ED
Compensation:
$30,000 to $40,000 with yearly review
Requirements:
- BA Degree in Non-Profit Management, Business Administration
or equivalent experience.
- Relocate to Gerlach, Nevada.
- A familiarity and love for the Black Rock Desert/High
Rock Canyon/Emigrant Trails National Conservation Area.
